The Princeton Review also contains information on the updated GRE test. It also notes the changes in the revised exam and its structure and content is outlined in detail. The points to be noted about the revised test have features such as:

  • A longer GRE test.
  • A new score scale for the exam.
  • Major changes in the Math and Verbal sections of the exam.
  • The new scale combines the scores of the Math and the Verbal sections together.

Before taking up the test, you can attempt an online practice test which would be structured exactly like the computer-adaptive test. The test includes questions in Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, Analytical Writing, and an experimental section that could be either verbal or quantitative. The score scale ranges from 130 to 170 with one point increments for the Quantitative and Verbal sections and 0 to 6 with half point increments for the Analytical Writing. While attempting the test, you will also be able to mark a question and edit it later. Your scores will be valid for a period of 5 years from the time you attempt the test.

The Verbal Reasoning has questions such as:

  • In Reading Comprehension, you will be asked to select multiple answers to questions.
  • A new question in Reading Comprehension, where you would be asked to select a sentence in the passage that supports the answer to a particular question.
  • Text Completion is a new type, in which you will be given multiple answers for two to three blanks and you have to answer all the blanks correctly.
  • In Sentence Equivalence, in a particular sentence, you would have to select one or more phrase or set of words to complete the sentence.

The Quantitative section includes questions in:

  • A new question type where numeric answers are the format rather than the multiple choice format.
  • A question type, where you would have to select multiple answers to a given question.
  • More questions are given on graphical representations, charts, and tables.
  • More emphasis is laid on data analysis.
  • More questions regarding real-life scenarios to be used in the graduate school are given.
  • Use of an onscreen calculator, which was adopted previously. You will also be given an ETS handheld calculator to help with your calculations.

The Analytical Writing consists of two essays to be attempted, one is an issue based-task where you would be given a specific topic to write about and an argument-based task where you will be required to analyze the essay and identify the strengths and assumptions. You would also have to form questions for the argument-based task.

DIFFERENT ROLES OF THE PRINCETON REVIEW

You can apply for financial aid or scholarship to the Princeton Review. They offer advice on which colleges to apply for admission to, and also help in enrolment of summer study programs abroad.
