GRE Exam
You cannot expect to graduate from a reputed college in the US or Canada if you do not prepare well for the GRE (Graduate Record Examinations). Almost all colleges in the US, Canada and many colleges in other countries of the world accept GRE scores for admissions to various courses offered by them. The GRE General Test and GRE Subject Tests are conducted by the Educational Testing Service (ETS). All details regarding the GRE test format and its registration can be obtained from the official website of ETS, www.ets.org .

GRE Math Section
The GRE General Test consists of the Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning and the Analytical Writing sections and these sections are designed to test your skills pertaining to verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, critical thinking, and analytical writing. The Quantitative Reasoning section of the GRE is also known as the Math section and it is the toughest section in the GRE for most students. The number of questions presented in this section and the time given to solve them will depend on the format of the GRE that you are taking. In other words, the computer based GRE and paper based GRE formats differ from each other when it comes to the format of the Quantitative Reasoning section. However, the common factor between both these formats is that there are three broad categories of questions that are asked in the Math sections of both the GRE formats. These three main types of questions are the quantitative comparisons, problem solving questions, and data interpretation questions.

GRE Problem Solving Questions
The GRE problem solving questions are designed to evaluate your understanding of the basic fundamentals of arithmetic, algebra and geometry and your ability to apply that knowledge effectively. All the GRE problem solving questions asked are based on multiple-choice answers. You will be presented with 5 answer choices for each GRE problem solving question. You will be required to select the most appropriate answer from the given answer options. There is a variation in the types of GRE problem solving questions that may be presented in the Math section of the GRE. You may be given some information followed by two or more GRE problem solving questions that are based on the given information or you may be presented with an isolated GRE problem solving question. You may either have to carry out simple calculations to arrive at the answer to a question or you may have to carry out detailed calculations to arrive at the answer for a particular GRE problem solving question.

Prep for the GRE Problem Solving Questions
You will require adequate preparation if you want to score high in the Quantitative section of the GRE. While attempting practice tests, make it a habit to spend enough time on each question so as to carefully analyze the information that is presented and the GRE problem solving question that has been asked. It would be worthwhile to calculate an approximate answer first and then ignore the ones that are grossly incorrect. You may then carry out finer calculations to arrive at the correct answer from the remaining answer options. Take as much practice on answering GRE problem solving questions as possible. Utilize all resources like the internet, study guides and study materials to fine tune your skills that will be put to test by the GRE problem solving questions.
