GRE Test Sections
The GRE is taken by all students vying for admissions to graduate programs offered by colleges in the US and in many other countries. The GRE score has to be submitted along with the admission forms to these colleges. The GRE consists of three scored sections. These are the Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning and the Analytical Writing sections.

The Quantitative Reasoning section is designed to test your knowledge of the basics of arithmetic, algebra and geometry. This section consists of questions based on multiple-choice answers. The three main types of questions that are presented in this section of the GRE are the quantitative comparison questions, problem solving questions and the data interpretation questions.

Format of the GRE Comparison Questions
The GRE comparison questions are specifically designed to test your ability to reason in a short frame of time by carrying out comparisons between the relative sizes of two quantities that will be provided to you as a part of the question asked. The GRE comparison question will consist of data in the form of quantities presented to you in two columns. The GRE comparison question will require you to carry out comparisons to ascertain the relationship between the two given quantities. You will also be given the option to state that the information provided is inadequate to determine the relationship between the two given quantities.

A GRE comparison question consists of four answer options. The first option states that the quantity in column A is greater and the second option states that the quantity in Column B is greater. The third option of the GRE comparison question states that both the given quantities are equal. The last option of the GRE comparison question states that the relationship cannot be determined from the information given. Each GRE comparison question may be pertaining to independent quantities in columns A and B or there may be common information given above the columns and the following GRE comparison questions will be based on it.

Preparing for GRE Comparison Questions
GRE comparison questions are specific to the GRE and hence you have to prepare yourself accordingly for solving the GRE comparison questions. Though the GRE comparison questions are based on the basics of math, you have to be comfortable with answering them before you take the GRE as your reasoning skills are being put to test by these questions. Therefore, it is an absolute must that you have enough exposure to practice in solving GRE comparison questions before you take the GRE. Utilize all avenues like the internet, study guides and the official website of GRE, www.ets.org for access to sample GRE comparison

There are certain points that have to be kept in mind while attempting the GRE comparison questions. Try to avoid wasting time in carrying out detailed calculations to find out which of the two quantities is greater. Just try to get a rough estimate and select the appropriate answer as the exact value is not required for solving a GRE comparison question. You will come across numerous websites that offer you various tips and strategies for tackling the GRE comparison questions. Make sure that you try out each of the strategies so that you are able to recall and implement them with ease on the day of the actual test.
